Lasagna Flatbread

Ingredients

For the Flatbread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Meat Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Topping:

  • Extra mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Flatbread:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
    • Gradually add the water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover with a towel and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Make the Meat Sauce:
    • In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add the ground beef or sausage, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned.
    • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
    • Add the crushed tomatoes, sugar, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  3. Prepare the Cheese Filling:
    • In a bowl, mix together ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  4. Assemble the Lasagna Flatbread:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Divide the rested dough into four equal pieces. Roll each piece into a thin circle or rectangle.
